After months of offering free Baybayin tattoo designs and translations, someone finally sent in a photo. This is a photo of BA-U-TI-S-TA going down the middle of her spine (ouch).

Kali = Kana? Kala?
December 15, 2007 - 521 views

Found this photo on Flickr that’s supposed to say KA-LI (Filipino martial art) but it actually says KA-NA because instead of the the “L” character, it’s an “N”. Notice the difference between the two.

Let’s say it’s artistic license and the “L” and “N” characters just look alike, there’s still the issue of the missing kudlit above the “LA” glyph. Kali done correctly would look like this:

This is probably the hottest Baybayin tattoo I’ve ever seen. Modern translation is LI-WA-NA-G. *The black writing near the bellybutton isn’t a tattoo, it’s on the image. What do you think?

Website
PinoyTattoos.com v.2 will be launched soon. This site has grown a lot since introducing free Baybayin designs and translations a few months ago. Since launching the service on 10/01/07, about 100 translations and designs have been done. This new site will have a cleaner design and much more intuitive navigation system.
Custom Baybayin translations
The translation service will be spit in two. Since the # of requests have been increasing every month, it’s hard to keep up with my initial turnaround time of 48-72 hours. The wait is now about 1-2 weeks. Don’t worry, there will still be a FREE service and will not go away. I look at it as my way of giving back. The value added service will have a quicker turnaround time (48-72) hours depending on when you confirm what you want. I’m still playing around with the price structure but it will be a fair price. While I know that most wont pay for a quicker turnaround time, some people have made tattoo appointments without even knowing what they want to get. My question is, how much do you think a fair price would be for a quicker turnaround time? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
Sister in Baybayin = SI-TI?
December 9, 2007 - 578 views
I came across this “Alibata” tattoo of “Sister” in the BMEInk gallery. The person probably went to an online Baybayin / Alibata any typed in “Sister” choosing original Baybayin. The result would be SI-TE as you see in the photo below. They might have thought that it was also a language translation as well.

A couple problems with this 1) There’s a Tagalog translation of sister (Kapatid or Ate), why not use that? 2) Sister could also be phonetically translated but would need to use modern Baybayin.
Below is a Kapatid (KA-PA-TI) and Ate (A-TE) in Baybayin.
