“Don’t bite my ish.”
According to a 2008 study by Population Reference Bureau, USA is the third most populous country worldwide with a population of 304.5 million; Filipinos surprisingly made up the 0.77% of the total number, which started at a lower rate and went higher as years passed by. Having all these said, we can hence conclude that migration is a phenomenon gaining popularity in the Philippines.
Now due to the growing number of Filipinos wanting to leave the country in hopes of finding a greener pasture, it isn’t surprising that kids today prefer My Chemical Romance over Pinikpikan, Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series over Jessica Zafra’s Twisted, or Baked Macaroni over Palabok. Reality bites.
Let this tattoo serves as a reminder that regardless of who and where we are, we should always be sublimed of our roots, of being Filipinos.

KKK. Ku Klux Klan? No.
It’s Kataas-taasang, Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan. Supreme and Venerable Society of the Children of the Nation in English translation. This could be one reason why alphabet agencies sprang out like beans: CSI, NCIS, FBI, NYPD. You name it, you have it.
There are so much to tell about KKK or the Katipunan and a million words are not enough. Let’s make this short. The Katipunan is a historical organization founded by some of the well-known Filipino anti-Spanish revolutionaries like Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo. Through arm uprising, the society aimed to end Spanish cruelties to the Filipinos during the colonial period.
Trivia: National Hero Jose Rizal rejected the idea of revolution by the Katipuneros believing it was premature and would only lead to deaths of many Filipinos. Albeit considered as an honorary president, he never became a member of the KKK.

Sabong or cockfight, which is believed to have started during pre-Hispanic era, is a turf of activity for Filipinos where demarcation between the rich and the commoners blurs. A game enjoyed by both young and immemorial, sabong is often tagged as a male-oriented “national past time” in which gamblers and playgoers, regardless of one’s social status, place on their bets in equal amount. Sabong can also be a very good window of Filipinos’ traits, one as being innovative. Slain roosters are either deplumed for feather duster or cooked in different dishes.

“Thought it was painful. It was just tolerable.”
At 23, right after her birthday, she got her first tat. Vines with ends of man’s private organ was the initial design. Then she came to realize that it won’t look good when she gets old. Her future grandchildren may ask her what her tattoo is and she doesn’t want to answer them with, “children, those are penises.” She’s planning to have his second tattoo as soon as she forgets what pain is.
