After thinking what she wants for her third tattoo, Joyce Noreen Aznar-Brigdman of Alaska finally decided to honor her Filipino culture.
The designs are 3 Stars and a Sun with Plumeria flowers or “kalachuche” in Philippines and Sampaguita flowers. She turned the regular stars into nautical stars and colored it with each colors of Philippine flag. She added the “kalachuche” flower because it reminds her of her grandmother’s house in Bohol. Sampaguita flowers are also included because it is the national flower of the Philippines.

Translating those letters in the tattoo using Baybayin will result to the word “Pagala.”
According to Roger of Hawaii, this design, which contained 3 Stars and a Sun, means Filipino Pride and those letters at the middle, which means “Pagala“, is his last name. He also added that Filipinos should always have pride in themselves and nationality because it is running in their blood. SO BE PROUD!

Another 3 Stars and a Sun with Philippine Island designed by Tha Kuya (which means Big Brother in Filipino). This tattoo is done with ink. For some, it is just a body design but for many who understand its value it is the representation of who they are. They are Filipino and they are proud of it!

One way of showing you are proud of your motherland than anything else is by tattooing your country’s map with its symbolic signs in your legs. Just like what Francis of Angeles, California did to his legs. He had his leg tattooed with 3 Stars and a Sun with Philippine Island to show the world how beautiful his country is and to show the world that his skin is Filipino. He surely is a proud son of his “Inang Bayan!”
