Jeff Saleem always believe that in every tattoo is a representation of who you are as a person. And this tattoo of him, which is made of Baybayin fon,  is his reminder to always go after everything he wanted in life no matter how difficult the road maybe.

January 22nd, 2011 – San Francisco
The joint book launch for “Way of the Ancient Healer” and “Filipino Tattoos: Ancient to Modern!” The day begins at noon at ARKIPELAGO BOOKS where we will be signing books until 4:00 pm. Then at 5:30 pm we will begin the book launch at the Bayanihan Community Center with opening traditional ceremonies and a special invocation song by Grace Nono. The night will feature music by Diwa Kulintang and lectures by both Virgil and I! Cultural performers to be announced! This promises to be a night to remember!

January 18th, 2011 – San Francisco
This is the very first public signing event I will be doing for Filipino Tattoos Ancient to Modern! It will be an intimate setting for talking about our books and I have heard wonderful things about Om Shan Tea! If you live in the San Francisco Area and would like to meet me or Virgil one-on-one, this is the event for you!

And so the bearer of this tattoo is ready to defend his homeland as what his tattoo is all about. Located at his back, this 3 stars and a sun was painted with colors of Philippine flag. You can also see the flag inside the circle of the sun. At the top is the name “Powex” which is none other than the name of the bearer.

MANILA, Philippines – Recent trends continue to rock and alter the perception of the norms in society. Just as rock music started to play in local news and mini skirts and Chuck Taylors started making regular appearances in formal events, tattoos have also become a generally accepted fashion accessory in our society.

Aside from the tattoo Jeff Luzod submitted to us (sun and stars with UCLA Bruin bear), he also had this Philippine Island map tattoo which he had earlier as his second tattoo. He had it located on his bicep so everyone can see it immediately. This not just a simple outlined with simple shading tattoo because for him this is also showcases his Filipino pride.

A Filipino tribal tattoo by Alex Figueroa of Dream Jungle Tattoos in Long Beach, CA. Filipinos are also known for these tribal tattoos which was originated long before their ancestral.  Tribal tattoos were used before until now as an identity between groups and clusters. This also shows fierce and loyalty at the same time.

Jon from New Jersey already had a cross tattoo that represents his mother side and came up with this another tattoo (as shown in the image) and this time it represents his father side. Jon came up with Baybayin tattoo of his father’s last name with the help of Christian who drew the script.

The bearer of this tattoo, Malcolm Cruz Moran from Melbourne Australia,  showed to us his version of Philippines 3 Stars and a Sun. In tribal and patterned design, Malcolm gave justice to his Filipino root through this tattoo. By this, he proclaimed that he is one true blooded Pinoy.

Chris from Australia has figured out what he wanted to be done on his trip to Bali for his 21st birthday. He decided to have tattoo of Philippine star, sun, eagle and four roses that represents his father, mother and two sisters which he placed on his shoulder down to his sleeve. His mother is a Filipina and his father is an Australian. Now, everyone will know his roots and hopefully will not be mistaken again on his real nationality.
