In that context, "ate" (older sister) would not be appropriate since they both can't be an "ate". "Kapatid" (sibling) would be more appropriate, but can be too long. If they were biological sisters, then the elder one could have gotten "ate" while the younger could have gotten "bunso" instead. Or they could have used "utol" (though this is slang).
