Erwin from Germany picked up this tattoo because it looks like an image but when you turn it sideways you can will read only one word because it’s in Ambigram style. The magic word is “Pilipinas” and he incorporates this tattoo with him because no matter what happens he will still be a Filipino. Just like the tattoo, know matter how side you read, it will still come up with the word “Pilipinas”. He was born in Germany but in his heart and mind he is one great Filipino.

Ambigram is a tattoo style wherein a word can still be read the same even if you turn it upside down. This 3 Stars and a Sun tattoo is from Michael Pamatmat of Laguna. In the middle of the sun is the name Lea in Ambigram style. After the long wait, Jobeng Castro of Davao City finally came up with this Ambigram tattoo style of his family name. Even if you turn it upside down, you will still come up with the word “Castro” and that’s the magic of Ambigram.

Jobeng is planning to have another tattoo with Baybayin fonts by the end of the year. Sure it will be a very good one. Tattoo fanatics should try it too!

If you’re a tattoo fanatic, you are most likely familiar with “Ambigram” style. For those who are new to this, Ambigram style is a graphic figure that can be read upside down yet spells out the same thing.

This tattoo by Steve Ruivivar of New York City is an example of Ambigram style tattoo. It says his last name and he said he was very hooked with this after reading Angels and Demons few years ago.

What’s up with the ambigram? Admit it or not, it started to gain popularity when Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons was released a few years back. The book contains the famous ambigram of Illuminati which, when inverted, reads just the same. But has ambigram something to do with us, Filipinos? Answer is yes.

Ambigram is becoming a famous tattoo subject for most. See Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda’s surname inked on his right arm. In no time, the internet will be bombarded with Filipinos tattooed with ambigram since it is the in-thing.

Since we already are speaking of being a part of the fad, Philippines is now being tagged as a nation of copycats. We have the Pinoy Idol, Survivor Philippines, Kakasa ka bas a Grade 5 and more. We need not to tell you their counterpart. Funny? Not. Whatever happened to Filipino’s creative side?
