my tatoomy tattoo1-1 This is the recent tattoo job that Christan Cabuay did and designed for Reggie of California.

Baybayin script was used and Reggie really loved this one. Well in fact, he left a message for Christian and he said, “I just wanted to say thank you for all the work and time you have put into my piece. Every time I look at it I can’t believe that I have it on my arm, Everyone that has seen it can’t believe how good it looks . It is probably one of the best tattoos design I have ever seen, and I don’t say that just because it’s on my arm. you are an amazing artist and I am honored to have you as my tattoo artist designer. Maraming Salamat Chistian.

It’s Baybayin

Jerweezee (San Diego CA)
Filipino Sun/Alibata/Tribal by Salvation Ink San Diego “The Kuya”
“We have the Filipino sun on the back and on the arm the word Pinoy with Alibata of kids name and Filipino/Hawaiian fusion tribal.”

Ancient Filipino script shouldn’t be called in any other way but Baybayin.

Baybayin was coined alibata by a National Language Institute member Paul Rodriguez Versoza in 1939. The said term was based on a Maguindanao alphabet related to the Arabic alif, ba, ta. There are no supporting evidences though on Versoza’s theory of baybayin and the Arabic language’s relation.

The word baybayin originated from the Tagalog root word baybay which literally means spell. And the shapes of the baybayin characters have a similarity to the ancient Javanese Kavi script. Usage of baybayin is known to have started as early as the 1400s.

The baybayin is a syllabic writing system called abugida and made up of 17 characters which can increase into 45 when the characters are combined with vowel-modifying marks called kudlits.

Baybayin.com offers more information about this ancient script.

Jason (San Diego)
Ruivivar by Skin N Art
“RUIVIVAR and I’m proud to be a Filipino. This tats is my last name and we’re quite a few in our hometown. So I decided to write it in modified Spanish way and also to show that no matter where I am or who I’m with, I’ll say that I’m proud to be Pinoy.”

Did he not know Third Watch?

If not, then he may not know Anthony Michael Ruivivar, one of the main casts of the NBC’s TV drama series Third Watch which last aired May 2005. And he may be interested in knowing the actor since both of them are of kin to Juan dela Cruz.

Anthony Michael’s father is of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish descent while his mother is German and Scottish. The actor played the role of Carlos Nieto in the show which allowed him to show off his ethnicity that includes of the Filipino characteristic. Too bad he isn’t that visible on the screen now as he was before.

We wonder if the inked Ruivivar is trying to pull a trick that he hasn’t heard of the actor Ruivivar.

One of the hardest things to do is deciding what tattoo to get. If you want a Baybayin tattoo, it’s a lot harder because you have to think of the language translation, style, horizontal, vertical, old school, or modern. All I can say right now is that this new feature, will allow you to see how the tattoo will look like. If you want to test it out, email me.

Version 3 of the PinoyTattoos.com forum is now up. Feel free to register and start a conversation. Look out for exclusive goodies to be announced in the forum.

I finally created a Twitter account for PinoyTattoos.com. If your not familiar with Twitter, it’s a “microblogging” application that allows you to keep in touch with “friends”. You have to check it out to fully understand what it does. Follow PinoyTattoos at Twitter.com/PinoyTattoos.
