After the long wait, Jobeng Castro of Davao City finally came up with this Ambigram tattoo style of his family name. Even if you turn it upside down, you will still come up with the word “Castro” and that’s the magic of Ambigram.

Jobeng is planning to have another tattoo with Baybayin fonts by the end of the year. Sure it will be a very good one. Tattoo fanatics should try it too!

Guess what is the meaning of this tattoo? It is basically made of bamboo designs with 2 letters in the middle. The 2 letters in Baybayin represents the maiden name of Jayson Withmore’s (the bearer) mother. Now, does anyone of you can tell what is his mother’s maiden name? Jovannie sends in a photo of his collection of Filipino related tattoos. You have Noli Me Tangere (look it up if you don’t know what it is), the Philippine map, Philippine Sun, and Baybayin. Not sure what it says though.

My first tat at 26…i learned about alibata/baybayin in college. i knew i had to get one. my last name was perfect with it’s very ‘Tagalog’ sound. took me years to decide on where to put it, how big, and what lay out it should have. i figured i’d have it on my left back side going down. i wanted it in brush strokes. the basic idea was all there, but my artist joe did a swell job in putting it all together and adding his own twist. turned out better than i imagined. can’t wait for my next ink.

Here’s a Baybayin design I did for Kaleina Kruz from NYC. It’s KA-I-A (her daughter’s name) in the “Philippine Sun” surrounded by flowers. It already looks great with just the outlines. Hopefully she will send an updated photo once filled in.
